An AirCS Race is an annual event in the bits & Bytes Minecraft server.

Race

The players begin in the AirCS Central Station. From there, they must visit all stations by riding the AirCS, SQTR or ClyRail and then return to the AirCS Central Station and cross the finish line. If two players collide on a rail track, they must turn back from each other.

Rules

See the official AirCS Race rules document for the full list.

  • Players must not get off the track (especially after they collide with another player), unless they're stuck.
  • Players must only use AirCS, SQTR and ClyRail. Using local rail services is not allowed.
  • Players must visit all stations.
  • Flying is not allowed.
  • Hacking is not allowed.
  • Replay Mod is required. (since 2023 race)

Events

AirCS Race 2018

The initial AirCS Race took place on October 10, 2018, marked as "The Great AirCS Race". The racers were Victor, Royce, Croust, Vrabbers, The Pixel Polygon, Alee, and Inkydink. Victor emerged as the winner, while Royce secured the second position initially. However, it was discovered at a later date that Royce had violated the race rules by spawning multiple minecarts while traveling to another station, leading to his disqualification.

AirCS Race 2021

Victor decided to revive the AirCS Race after developing an interest in bringing it back. Unlike its previous, casual iteration, this revived race was conducted professionally. A plugin was introduced to track the racers' positions and detect collisions during the competition, it was developed by JPlexer and Victor. The participants included Victor, The Pixel Polygon, Luca, Jelle, Royce, JPlexer, Alee, Vrabbers, and Clygro. Victor emerged as the winner, with The Pixel Polygon securing the second position.

AirCS Race 2023

This year's race was different from previous years, with the station count nearly tripling in size and the travel time to each station extending to about 3 hours. Teams were introduced in an attempt to reduce the travel time, as the station count grew to 124, including notable stations such as AirCS, SQTR, and ClyRail. ClyRail joined the race, marking its transition into a global transportation system, while FrivoloCo sponsored this year's race.

Despite encountering some issues, mainly due to lag, with the server reaching around 3 TPS at one point, the race continued. It lasted around 4 hours. The competing teams for this year were The Soggy Bread Sticks (Alee, TechGamesPlus, JPlexer, and Flynn), Kessoku Band (CCSleep, Royce551, Logan, and Clygro), and theCheesePolyUltKiller (Martysh12, The Pixel Polygon, Victor, Kommult). theCheesePolyUltKiller secured the first position, followed by Kessoku Band in second place, and The Soggy Bread Sticks in third.

Trivia

  • An AirCS Race is just a Travelling Salesman Problem, but with extra steps.
  • Since 2021, a new plugin called raceCS has been created to track the race, give boosts, and handle teams.
